Are You Manifesting What You Want… or Exactly What You Don’t? | Building Upward, LLC

Are You Manifesting What You Want… or Exactly What You Don’t?

Manifestation.

Depending on who you ask, that word either sparks excitement… or eye rolls.

Some people picture vision boards, affirmations, and positive thinking.

Others dismiss it as wishful thinking, woo woo, or something that simply isn’t real.

But what if manifestation isn’t as mysterious as people make it out to be?

What if it’s simply a word used to describe something your brain and body are already doing every single day?

Other names some people say in place of manifesting are aligning or attracting.

You’re Already Manifesting

Whether you realize it or not, your thoughts influence your emotions.

Your emotions influence your actions.

Your actions influence your habits.

Your habits influence your results.

In other words…

You are constantly creating your future by what you repeatedly think, believe, say, and do.

The question isn’t whether you’re manifesting.

The question is…

What are you manifesting?

Your Brain Is Always Listening

Your brain has an incredible filtering system called the Reticular Activating System (RAS).

Its job is to determine what information deserves your attention.

Think about the last time you bought or researched a new vehicle.

Suddenly you started seeing that exact make and model everywhere.

The cars didn’t magically appear overnight.

Your brain simply started noticing them.

The same thing happens with your life.

If your thoughts constantly sound like…

“I’ll never get ahead.”

“I’m always broke.”

“I’m exhausted.”

“Nothing ever works out for me.”

“I’m overweight.”

“I’m not good enough.”

…your brain starts searching for evidence that those statements are true.

Without realizing it, you begin noticing more reasons to stay stuck.

You make decisions from fear instead of possibility.

You expect disappointment.

You hesitate.

You play small.

Over time, those patterns become your reality.

Not because you’re being punished.

Because your thoughts have been shaping your focus, your actions, and ultimately your results.

Science Supports This Too

Many people dismiss manifestation because they assume it’s based solely on positive thinking.

But there’s actually quite a bit of research that supports pieces of what many people call manifestation.

Researchers have studied topics like:

  • Neuroplasticity, showing that repeated thoughts strengthen neural pathways.
  • Visualization, which has been shown to improve confidence and performance in athletes, musicians, and professionals.
  • Self-fulfilling prophecies and expectancy effects, where our beliefs influence our behaviors and outcomes.
  • Gratitude practices, which have been linked to improved mental well-being and resilience.

Whether you call it manifestation, mindset, intentional living, alignment, attraction, or neuroscience…

The principle remains the same.

Where your attention goes, your life tends to follow.

Even Successful People Talk About It

Many highly successful people have publicly shared how visualization and intentional thinking played a role in their journeys.

Jim Carrey famously wrote himself a $10 million check years before earning one.

Oprah Winfrey has spoken about gratitude and intention.

Arnold Schwarzenegger has talked about mentally rehearsing success long before achieving it.

Sarah Blakely has shared how mindset helped shape her entrepreneurial journey.

Their success wasn’t created simply by wishing.

It came from consistently aligning their thoughts, beliefs, actions, and persistence toward a vision they refused to let go of.

So… What Are You Feeding Your Mind?

Imagine spending all day thinking about debt.

Every bill reminds you that you’re behind.

Every purchase creates anxiety.

Every conversation reinforces scarcity.

Now ask yourself…

How likely are you to take bold, confident action from that mindset?

Probably not very.

Now imagine focusing instead on becoming someone who manages money wisely, creates value, looks for opportunities, believes growth is possible, sees abundance everywhere.

Your circumstances may not change overnight.

But your decisions begin to change.

And eventually…

Your results begin changing too.

The same applies to your health.

Your relationships.

Your confidence.

Your career.

Your happiness.

Three Ways to Start Manifesting What You Actually Want

1. Catch the Story You’re Repeating

Pay attention to the thoughts running through your mind throughout the day.

Ask yourself:

“Is this thought creating the future I want… or keeping me attached to the past I don’t?”

Awareness is always the first step.

2. Change the Question

Instead of asking…

“What if I fail?”

Try asking…

“What if this works?”

“What if things turn out even better than I expected?”

Small shifts in language create surprisingly big shifts in perspective.

3. Become the Future Version of You

Ask yourself one simple question every day:

What would the healthiest, happiest, wealthiest, most confident version of me do right now?

Then do that.

Not tomorrow.

Today.

Tiny actions repeated consistently become powerful transformations.

You Don’t Have to Figure It Out Alone

One of the biggest reasons people stay stuck isn’t because they aren’t capable.

It’s because they’re trying to change in the same environment that created the old patterns.

That’s exactly why I created my women’s community.

It’s a place where women encourage one another, learn practical mindset and wellness tools, build healthier habits, and begin creating lives they’re genuinely excited to wake up to.

Because lasting change doesn’t happen from reading one inspiring quote.

It happens through consistent action, accountability, and surrounding yourself with people who remind you of what’s possible.

Your Next Step

Take just a few minutes today to notice what you’re thinking about most often.

If your thoughts are constantly rehearsing what you don’t want…

Maybe it’s time to start practicing what you do want instead.

After all…

Your future is being shaped by what you repeatedly focus on today.

So ask yourself one more time:

Are you manifesting what you want… or exactly what you don’t?
